Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

The University is seeking to appoint an LGBTQ+ Champion. This offers a valuable opportunity to play a key role in advocating for LGBTQ+ inclusion at senior levels of the institution, providing visible leadership, and promoting equality and belonging throughout the University.

This is a particularly exciting time to join this area of work, following the completion of the Being LGBTQ+ in Cambridge Review and the ongoing development of a four-year LGBTQ+ Framework aimed at enhancing LGBTQ+ inclusion. Additionally, the University has recently achieved significant milestones, including the appointment of a dedicated LGBTQ+ Consultant within the central ED&I team, the successful launch of our first-ever float at London Pride in June 2024, and the establishment of an LGBTQ+ mentorship programme.

The successful candidate will work closely with the University’s other ED&I Champions, including those for Gender, Race and Disability Equality as well as with the LGBTQ+ Staff Network and the LGBTQ+ ED&I Consultant. This role offers a fantastic opportunity for a senior LGBTQ+ staff member or an LGBTQ+ ally with the passion and influence to advocate for the community, ensuring its voice is heard in critical decision-making processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Representation – Serve on ED&I-related committees, representing LGBTQ+ perspectives.
  • Collaboration and Engagement – Work alongside other ED&I Champions, the LGBTQ+ Staff Network, and the LGBTQ+ ED&I Consultant to drive inclusion.
  • Advocacy and Reporting – Advise on policies and procedures, providing guidance and signposting on LGBTQ+ enquiries.
  • Promotion of Best Practices – Support the promotion of ED&I best practices and contribute to related events and initiatives.
  • Liaison with Schools and NSIs – Ensure a consistent and effective approach to LGBTQ+ inclusion across all areas of the University.

This is a part-time role for a one-year term, after which it may be renewed. It is formally recognised with a time commitment buy-out of 4 hours per week during term time, equating to 96 hours per year.
