Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

Gender Equality Steering Group (GESG)

In response to equal pay investigations, the University initially established the Gender Representation Review Group (GRRG) to consider findings and make recommendations for further action. GRRG's work was taken forward by the University's Gender Equality Group (GEG) which has now been replaced by the Gender Equality Steering Group (GESG).

GESG's remit is to oversee the University's gender priorities as part of its overall strategy and progress equality, inclusion and wellbeing. It functions as a proactive pressure group, advocating for and promoting transformative changes to advance gender equity throughout the university. It aims to strategically shape and influence overarching university strategies to ensure a comprehensive integration of gender equity considerations. This includes assessing, considering and advising on Gender Equality and intersectional issues pertaining to staff and students, particularly regarding

  • Training and awareness

  • University policy and practice

  • Gender Pay Gap and Gender Pay reporting

  • Admissions and access

  • Teaching and assessment

  • Behaviour, bullying and harassment

GESG reports to the University's ED&I Committee.

GESG is chaired by the Gender Equality Champions: Professor Sarah Colvin.
